Oil-Free Air is the Key to Equipment Air Quality

65% or more of pneumatic equipment failures can be attributed to poor air quality! Synthetic compressor oils chemically attack air system components such as air valve seals. Standard air filters, dryers and after coolers are not enough to remove atomized oil. "Oil-free" air is required. ISO 8573.1: Class 1-2 defines oi free air as 0.01 ppm level of oil including vapor. Even though most pneumatic equipment does not mandate "Oil-free" air, separation equipment does because of the size, number and frequency of valve operations.

There are numerous means to achieve this level of oil removal; coalescing filters sized for the air system flow rate is the most accepted. Consult your compressor manufacturer or local air system specialist for your particular application. MSS supplies with each piece of equipment a 50 micron rough filter to remove dirt and water. This filter does not remove oil. Following ISO standard will make all of your air equipment last longer.
